The Association for Borderlands Studies (ABS) is the leading international scholarly association dedicated to the systematic study and exchange of ideas, information and analysis of international border, and the processes and communities engendered by such borders. Founded in 1976 with the original impetus for the study of the United States-Mexico borderlands, the Association has experienced a steady expansion and transformation in recent years. Currently, the ABS membership encompasses scholars, experts, and professionals in universities, international organizations, citizen associations, and governments in 55 countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
BIG Lab BIG Lab
This research initiative creates a world-wide network of policy actors and academics to study these challenges and their significant and emerging implications for border policy. BIG Lab co-produces comparative and policy relevant research with scholars and cross-border organizations worldwide. In addition to its13 formal university partners, this network brings together international and transnational organizations, regional and local organizations, Indigenous led organizations, academic publishers, and a media outlet.

University of the Greater Region-Center for Border Studies University of the Greater Region-Center for Border Studies
The UniGR-CBS is an Interdisciplinary Center of Expertise of the University of the Greater Region (UniGR) and combines the expertise of the border researchers of its partner universities. It has been shaping the Greater Region since 2014 and works across borders and border spaces in Europe and beyond. The involved border researchers investigate socioeconomic and sociocultural issues and provide practice-oriented solutions for challenges in border regions.

With over 36,000 inhabitants, Esch-sur-Alzette is the second largest city in the Grand Duchy. A university town at the heart of the Greater Region, Esch is home to more than 120 different nationalities. It is precisely this diversity that is part of its DNA. The city has long been involved in cross-border cooperation, given its location on the Franco-Luxembourg border, its vocation as a cultural crossroads and its active role as a centre of attraction for the Greater Region.
